Recon Instruments Announces New Features in Updated HQ and Online Community
Vancouver, BC - November 3, 2011 - Recon Instruments, the Vancouver-based company behind MOD and MOD Live, the world’s first GPS-enabled Micro Optics Displays for Alpine goggles, has introduced even more features in its ground-breaking HQ platform.
Users are able to upload all the data stored on their MODs straight to their PC or Mac and share their trip highlights online. HQ overlays the users’ entire day onto satellite imagery for playback, storage, and sharing their mountain experiences. HQ also includes a dashboard which displays all the features from the MODs themselves including speed, jump analytics, altitude, vertical distance travelled, total distance travelled, longitude/latitude and temperature throughout each run.
HQ acts as the official log of all activity throughout the season. Users will be able to view and record their stats per run, but also the accumulation of data over the course of the season. Track performance and accomplishments throughout the year, remember favorite ski runs and hidden tracks, and even find locations to explore further.
HQ also boasts a highlight editor whereby users can select the best sections of their runs to share on their profile on the HQ Online Community, (http://hqonline.reconinstruments.com). Here, other skiers’ and riders’ profiles, highlights, stats and runs can be viewed. HQ Online also features The Podium for exceptional feats at resorts across the globe, with prizes awarded for the best highlights. This season Recon has alluded to thousands of dollars in trip giveaways, lift tickets, and gear, including one exclusive invite to Test Fest III; the much- anticipated yearly backcountry trip and private party. This year’s secret location has yet to be announced.
“The HQ software and online community extends your Alpine experience après-ski, with sharing, bragging, and exploring after your day on the hill is over,” said Darcy Hughes, Chief Marketing Officer. “Skiers and riders can re-live and learn from their trips and runs, sharing them with old and new-found ski-buddies on HQ Online.
“Sport is defined by its social nature and we wanted capture this with HQ Online and allow users to share their achievements with the wider SnowSports community. And now with added features such as image and video tagging, increased social networking, and the HQ Mobile App, we are able to bring MOD technology to the next level.”
HQ and its online community support all of Recon Instruments’ technology to date as well as all future hardware releases. It is proving to be the de facto Alpine social media hub, linking seamlessly to Twitter and Facebook. This season’s MOD and MOD Live releases provide real-time feedback to the user, including speed, jump analytics, altitude, vertical distance travelled, total distance travelled, longitude/latitude and temperature and time. MOD Live is based on the Android platform, unlocking customized Apps and increased functionality including smartphone integration, Navigation and Buddy Tracking. All information is brought to the user via a full-color, adjustable micro-LCD display mounted inside the goggles.
